There are many elements to a story and you have learned quite a few of the terms this year. Your assignment today is on 'POINTS OF VIEW'. Read the following and complete #1-3.
POINT OF VIEW (POV):
a.) First Person POV - In a first-person narrative the story is told by a narrator who is also a character within the story, so that the narrator reveals the plot by referring to this viewpoint character as "I" (or, when plural, "we").
b.) Second Person POV - second-person narrative mode, in which the narrator refers to one of the characters as "you", therefore making the audience member feel as if he or she is a character within the story.
c.) Third Person POV - In the third-person narrative mode, each and every character is referred to by the narrator as "he", "she", "it", or "they", but never as "I" or "we" (first-person), or "you" (second-person).
ASSIGNMENT:
1.) Read the notes and make sure you understand the different 'POINTS OF VIEW'.
2.) Decide which point of view the author uses in the novel and explain why you chose it.

I think that the book The Devil's Arithmetic is Third Person POV. Why do you ask? Well, in chapter 13 page 105 it says " She sat up suddenly and hit her head with a loud crack above of her. " And in chapter 13 page 106 it says " She looked around, her eyes and mined still fuzzed with sleep. "

DeleteIn your first sentence near the end I think you meant to say put into third person rather than put in the third person. Another thing you could have done could have been to add another sentence with prove rather than just listing one. But overall good job.
I think that this book is written in third person POV, because it is not written using I's and you's, instead, it as written using she's and he's. For example, in page 96, it says "She wondered what she looked like herself, resisting the urge to put her hand up to her head again."

Hello Minnie Mouse! I see that you've done a good job, but there are a few thing you could improve on. Remember your capitals and punctuation! Add some " or quotation marks around what it said. For example, "It was the last thing any of them said on the moving train." Also, I don't think you needed to press return so much.

"Devil's Arithmetic" is written in the third-person narrative mode. Do you know why? Well because, on page 155, it says "Her mouth twisted at the irony of it and she turned to the three girls at the water pump." The narrator used "she" and "it" but didn't use "I" or "we" or "you".

Delete-Some punctuation errors. For example, you need to take out a period on second sentence. Also, you don't need to use comma between 'pg.97' and 'it'.

ReplyDeleteYour post was correct and very quick and to the point. You should try to make into two sentences next time instead of just one really long one. Also make sure to use more punctuation and capitals where there needed.

Another sentence said, She's still recovering from her illness." In both of these it doesn't refer to any of the characters as I and uses there names and "he", "she", and "they". This proves that this book is in the third person.
I Know that this book was written in third person because of the way that peoples actions are described. For example on pg. 89 it states that SHE pointed down a narrow hall. When peoples actions are written like this it is an obvious hint that the book or novel was written in third person.

This book is written in third person I know because multiple times it said "Hannah" for example on page 41 Hannah says "Dressed! Hannah looked down at the flowered smock she had on".
