  1. Conflict- "person vs. self" I think its person vs. self because during the story she was confused.

    Setting- time- 1942
    Place- Poland
    - Seder
    -barn

Protagonist- in the book Hannah is on the good side, She also has a great personality.

Antagonist- I think the Nazi solders are in the bad side because they try to kill people and they made the Jewish were a star and if they didn't want to they had to go to jail.

    1. I think you need to work on getting more info and you need took on sentence structure, the location is not poland, it New York and New Roullete. You should get more detail too but over al, it was really good. :)

    2. @Oreo
I think that you did a great job, but I have a few edits for you. My first edit is that for setting I think you could have put it into a proper sentence. Also, in setting you put they are in a Poland, but they are actually in New Rochelle, New York.
These are my two edits for your paragraph, great job overall.

    3. @ Oreo
I think that you could add more detail on your protagonist section, like what does she look like what roll does she play in the book.

      Delete
    4. @Oreo

Very good job! But on the protagonist section I would like to know more about Hannah, not just she has a great personality. Also try to explain more for the conflict, when in the book was Hannah confused?

      Delete
  2. conflict- In this whole story, there is a conflict between Hannah and environment. When Hannah is suddenly transpoted to Polish village, she has no idea where she is and strangers call her "Chaya" that everyone seems to think she is. Hannah's frustrated.
Also, there is a conflict between Yitzchak and Gitl. Gitl says that he's a monster and tells Hannah that all he wants is a nurse for his motherless children. She doesn't want to accept Yitzchak's offer, get married and then live in a fine new house. Gitl hates him.

Setting- 1942 in a Polish village.

    Protagorist- Shumuel
because, he's always caing about Hannah(Chaya). Also, he does his best to take care of poor Hannah(Chaya) who lost her parents. (For Chaya).

    1. Your info is great but your setting needs a bit more info Hooke maybe you could tell us a little bit more about what year it is and were it is . Other wise your work is great but please add a antagonist section in it because you might now who it is

      Delete
    2. Your post was very good, I like your answers. The only thing I would suggest for next time would be in your "setting" you could use full sentences. One more thing would be watch out for run on sentences, your first one in "conflict" is pretty long. Other than that great job. :)

      Delete
    3. @Conan

You did a good job! But you didn't really talk about which Polish village the story took place. And you also put no people were antagonist, but you can infer that the people who were antagonist were the Nazi's because they did HORRIBLE things to the people that worship the Jewish religion.

      Delete
    4. Your conflict is great but you did have a few capital issues . For the setting, you can put it as sentences. For the protagonist, after you said ' Shumuel ' you could continue the sentence in the same line. Other than that your work was great.

      Delete
  3. Conflict- Person vs Self because she is confused and I think she might be arguing with herself.

    Setting- Polish city in 1942

Protagorist- Shumuel one reason because he really cares for her and tries to take care of hannah is now without her parents, also I think he has feelings for.

    Antagonist- There is none.

    1. I like your posts, but if you added more detail, I think they would be a lot better. One more thing would be if you tried to use full sentences it would definitely improve your word. Great job, those are just a few things to keep in mind for next time. :)

    2. @dragon
I think you did a great job on your post, but I think that you could add more details on the settings section like what polish city does the story take place and there was info on the antagonist part.

      Delete
    3. @Dragon I think you did a good job but most of your sentences are incomplete so add a bit more detail and they will sound much better than before. Also I think it would be better if you have periods at the end, and it would better to add more info on all of them.

      Delete
    4. (REVISED)

Perons vs Self-I thought this because it was almost as if she was arguing with herself. Because she did not know who she was but at the same time she did.

Setting-The setting is a Polish city and the year was 1942.

Protaginist-Shumel is the protaginist in the story. One reason why he is, is because he really cares for Hannah and doesn't want her to get hurt, also theHreason why is because in the story Hannah's parents have died.

Antagoinst-The antagonist in the story is the Nazis. The reason for this is because they are the ones who killed thousands or millions of jews, Also Adalf Hitler is also to blame.

      Delete
  4. Conflict: person vs self because hannah gets confused with her self alot.

    Setting: time 1942

Protagorist: i think that hannah is Protagorist because she's not mean she's very nice and sweet.

    Antagonist: there isn't one yet

    1. You could have added more detail for all your sections. You had a few capital issue and you could have put your setting in a sentence form. Other than that, your did a good job!

      Delete
    2. I think that you should put some on every single one of them and. I think that you did a very good job and you should work on how to put your capitals and your periods so that your sentences never go on and on and on every time you say something.

      Delete
    3. Good job minnie mouse! You just need to add a bit of detail to you're information. For example,in setting you just put 1942, you could of added where it took place. You have a bit of capitalization errors in the protagonist section. For example, the letter I has to be capitalized same with the letter H in Hannah.

      Delete
    4. You did good job! But I think you need to add more detail. For example, you can add what's Hannah's personality like and what does she looks like. You can say that Hannah is 13 years old, mouse-brown hair and braces on her teeth. She's hardely happy and she doesn't like to hear stories from her family.

      Delete
    5. @minnie mouse
I think you did a great job but you should add more info in the settings like what place Kidd t take place, and there was info on antagonists.

      Delete
  5. Conflict-
The conflict, as far as I have read into this book, the conflict would probably be Person vs. Self. The reason why is because Hannah might be dreaming or hallucinating everything, which means that she is trying to fight to get out of this place. So far, it hasn't worked, so there is a chance that she was actually transported back in time.

    Setting-
I estimated it was about 1940 to 1950.
    In a Polish village
In a farm with green grass, crops and a barn

    Protagonist
    - The protagonist in this book would have to be Chaya/Hannah because she seems thoughtful. Although, sometimes she can be disrespectful, but she is kind hearted. The book never described Chaya very well, but I bet she looked similar to Hannah. Hannah had brown hair, braces, and was 12 years old.

    Antagonist-
The Nazi's are definitely the antagonists in this book. The reason why is because they are harsh cruel, and they persecute the Jews. It's not hard to explain why the Nazi's were the bad guys.

    1. Oops, I meant to say Hannah is 13 years old

    2. You did a great job on your explanations but I think that you could explain why you thought it would be that specific time. You could also add a bit more on your antagonist page and why you think that.

      Delete
  6. 1.)CONFLICT
    Person vs Society
This book mainly takes place around World War II where the Nazis were treating the Jewish people inhumanely. The Nazi soldiers executed the Jewish people for silly reasons.

    2.)SETTING
    Time - 1942/Modern Time
Place - New Rochelle, New York/Poland

    3.)PROTAGONIST
Hannah is the protagonist in this story. She seems like a sort-of ignorant person that doesn't realize the actual cruelty and pain that people have endured during the war. She also doesn't like remembering important events. Besides that, I would say that she is playful and innocent like her brother, Aaron.

    4.)ANTAGONIST
The Nazis are the antagonist. I think this because of the fact that the Nazis persecuted the Jews. In this book, the story bases them as the antagonist of the story.

    1. I think that you did a good job on your protagonist section but you could have added more info about what she looked like and how old she was. I also think you could have added more info on your antagonist section. You could explain why they were the antagonist in more detail.

      Delete
    2. As always, nice jobs Sherlock! One thing I suggest you do is to explain what Hannah looks like in the story. She is the protagonist so you have to be specific. Also, be sure to watch four grammar. Most of our writing is clean and smooth, but you may want to make edits on your antagonist section. For instance, "The story bases them as the antagonist of the story." I don't think that bases is a word.

  7. Conflict - Person vs. self - I think this because Hannah is always thinking that she is hallucinating or dreaming. She is confused about what is real.

Setting - The time is 1942, and the place is in a Polish village.

Protagonist - The protagonist is Hannah/Chaya. She is thoughtful when it comes to her brother (most of the time), but sometimes she can be rude and disrespectful. Like when she was going to the traditional thing, (I forgot what it was called) she was complaining. Hannah/Chaya has grey eyes, mouse brown hair, a heart-shaped face, and is 13 years old.

    Antagonist - I’m not sure.

    1. Hello Ammit, you did a great job! But next time you might want to:

1.) Try to add more details about the conflict, such as what she thinks is a dream, and why she thinks she is dreaming.

2.) Look for an antagonist, because I'm sure there is one.

    2. REVISED:
Conflict - Person vs. self - I think this because Hannah is always thinking that she is hallucinating or dreaming. She is confused about what is real, and what is not because she was actually transported to the past. She thinks she dreaming because the home is not familiar to her.

Antagonist - The antagonist of the story are the Nazis. Throughout the whole book the Nazis are persecuting the Jews. In the story, the Nazis took Hannah/Chaya, Gitl, Shumel, and lots of other people to the concentration camps.

      Delete
  8. Conflict: I think that the conflict so far would be Person vs. Self, because Hannah thinking she is dreaming, so she is very confused. Also, she tried to get out of the dream, by pinching herself.

Setting: Polish City, in the mid 1900's.

Protagonist: Hannah would be the protagonist because she's the main character, and very kind. She has brown hair, braces, and a young lady.

Antagonist: The Nazi's are obviously the antagonists in this book, because they persecuted the Jews, and tortured them.

    1. Your info is great but your sections need a little bit of work and in your setting you need a little more info because it is really short.

In your protagonist maybe you can add a little bit more info about Hannah and how she is a nice person

Your antagonist is really good it explains why they are the bad people and it explains a lot

      Great job

setting- is in 1942 out in poland

protagonist - is hannah she is a very ice girl but sometimes can be a little ignorint but otherwise she is thoughtful and openminded. she can be rude to her little brother when it come to certin stuff. but other wise she is very nice.

I think you did a great job with your paragraph, but I have a few edits for you. I think you should have added a bit more detail for your antagonist topic. Another edit I have for you is You should have put the setting topic in a proper sentence rather than putting it into point form.
      Great job overall.

    2. Very nice job! I suggest that you fix the errors you made all around your writing. For instance, capitalization, spelling and grammar. Be sure to spell check all your writing, make sure to make complete sentences. Other than those errors, you did a nice job.

  10. Conflict-
-Person vs society- I picked this conflict because Hannah had gone to the past which is a completly different society.
    - Person vs self- I picked this conflict because Hannah keeps on thinking she is dreaming about the past.

    Setting-
    Time- Around 1940's to 1960s.
Place- In the beginning the story took place in New Rochelle. Later, the story took place in Lublin.

Protagonist- In this story, Hannah is the protagonist. She is a 13 year old girl who has grey eyes, mouse brown hair and braces. She doesn't believe in such things as passover but is forced to attend it. She has a brother named Aaron, aunts named Rose and Eva and her grandpa Will.

  11. Conflict- i think person vs person because hannah is vs the nazis or person vs self because she is thinking she is in a dream and tries to get out of it.

Setting-the setting is in 1942 in Poland\ New York New Rochelle

Pro- Hannah is theprotagonist because she is always smiling, never mad and nice but sometimes can be a little rude to some people for example her little brother.

Ant- The nazis are the Antoganists because they are the bad people always trying to hurt the poor jewish people...destroying their homes family and even friends.

    1. @tony hawk you did a great job on this assignment but you should have more interesting details in yours and you should remember your capitals and you should choose a side person vs person or person vs self so always choose a side. You should have put some more punctuation.

      Delete
    2. Overall you did a great job. There are just two things I would suggest for next time, that you could do to improve your work. One would be try to add a little more detail. For example, in your conflict you said "Hannah is against the Nazis. Next time you could add why. The other thing I would suggest to help you improve your work would be to look out for capital errors. You were missing capitals in a few places. For example "Hannah" is a name so it must be capitalized. Also "Jewish" should be capitalized, but "antagonist" should not. Other than that great posts. :)

    3. Your info is great but it needs detail maybe you can tell us how Hannah is the pro in a little more detail and your setting needs more work so you and all your readers can understand we're this is but over all you did. a great job on your work I can tell you can understand what it is

    4. Good work on finding the correct info for your post but I believe that in your conflict section you have put P v P instead of person Vs. society.... To Be Continued

  12. CONFLICT: At this point in the story (from the beginning of the book until chapter six) there have been a few conflicts. One of them, which a person vs environment happens when Hannah opens the door. She is transported back in time. The problems is Hannahs physical environment has changed dramatically and everybody around her think she is someone she literally is not. Her reality and her life is changed. Hannahs new environment has confused and caused her trouble.

SETTING: in the story there has been two settings. The first would be the small apartment room belonging to Grandpa Will and Grandma Belle. There home is full of family members because they are gathering to eat dinner and celebrate the first nights Seder. This takes place in around 1999 or 2000, the location is unknown though.

PROTAGONIST: Hannah is the protagonist of he story. She is a 12, almost thirteen year old girl. She has very dark hair and bangs. Hannah also has braces. She has a bit of an "I could care less attitude" about the past, the history, and her grandparents stories. Hannah seems to think that she is hard done by. She feels that she doesn't get any attention, only Aaron does.

ANTAGONIST: in this story the Nazi soldiers and Hitler are the antagonist. They cause pain to the Jewish people, they take away their rights. Killing many and having no regard for how the Jewish people feel.

    1. Excellent job Cleopatra! I have to admit that there were a couple of errors you made. For example, "The problems is Hannahs physical environment...." You need to get rid of the s in problems and add a quotation in Hannahs. Another mistake I have noticed is how you forgot to capitalize "is" in the beginning of antagonist. Other than these small mistakes you made, you did an amazing job.

      Delete
    2. @Brian Robeson- thank you very much for the suggestions! As well as the positive feedback. I have only one question, when you wrote "I have noticed that you forgot to capitalize the "is" in the beginning of antagonist", did you mean the "in" in the beginning?

      Delete
  13. Conflict: I think the conflict is person to person because of how Hannah and her grandpa Will started arguing about the 5 digits in Hannah's arm.

Settings: The setting is in the 1940s to the 1960s at new Rochelle.

Protagonist: Hannah is the protagonist because she is a nice person but she hates family gatherings.

Antagonist: I think that the nazi soldiers are the antagonists because of what they did to grandpa Will and his family

    1. I think that you should add more detail with the antagonist you should explain more and you should say how the bad people are the Nazis and say how they affect hannah in a way. What did they do to grandpa Will do you just need to add more detail but overall great job :)!!!!!!!!!

  17. @Minne mouse I think you did a good job but I think you need some more info on all of them. Even a little bit more of detail. Also I think it would sound better if you read on in the book so there would be a little more info to type up on.

  18. You did a great job, but next time you might want to:

1.) Check your spelling, because there is a few errors.

  19. You had good answers in your sections but I think that you hade some punctuation errors. For example, it is Nazis not Nazi's. To add to that, you could also add to the protagonist section in a couple ways like adding her age and what she looked like

  20. @Chelsea Somers I think yours is good but you also need to add more detail to your sentences so they will sound better then ever, not saying that they sound bad but they need some work. Also I think you could use some more info on protaginist more details on Hannah.

Protagonsit - I think Hannah is on the good side Hannah is 13 years old she has brown hair and she has a brother named Aaron.

    1)Conflict
    Person vs Society
The Jewish people were being persecuted by the Nazi soilders during WWII. For example, the Nazi soilders forced the Jewish people to work and then the Nazi soilders would kill them.

    2)Setting
Time- This story takes place around 1942.
Place- This story takes place mainly at the Seder.
Location- It has taken place in New Rochelle, New York.

    3)Protagonist
In my opinion, I think that Hannah is protaginist. I think she has a great personality, and I also think that she is thoughful. She has braces and short mouse brown hair. Hannah is a young child.

    4)Antagonist
In my opinion, I think that the Nazi soilders are antagonist. I think they are all horrible people for torturing most Jewish people like, putting them in concentration camps then later killing them. All of the Nazi wore a grey uniform with their logo on their arm. The Nazi soilders were various ages.

    Confilct - Person vs Society
In my opinion, I thought that the conflict in " Devil's Arithmetic " is person vs society because the Nazis were treating the Jewish religion people very badly and putting the to prison or execution for no reason.

    Setting -
Time – The time where the book took place was in 1942.
Location – The book took place in New Rochelle, New York.

    Protagonist -
I think Hannah is protagonist, because she seems like a nice person with a great personality, she isn't mean or anything and is just tired of everyone talking about the past during the Seder. She has braces and brown hair.

    Antagonist -
I think the Nazis are antagonist, I think this because they treated the people who worshiped the Jewish religion HORRIBLY!! The Nazis put them in concentration camps, they tortured them, and eventually killed them.

      2) Capitalize names like Hannah and Nazis.
      3) Fix your spelling of concentration.
      4) Capitalize the first letter of your sentences.

      1. For conflict, you haven't put enough detail to support your answer.
      2. For protagonist, your sentence had a few errors in it. Get rid of some "and"s and change it so theres two sentences. Check your Stop Those Run-on's! sheet for more help if you don't understand.
      3. Remember to pay attention to capitals; they're quite important. :)
      4. Also remember about spelling; it's important too! :)

  28. Conflict-person vs nature (for now) because hannah mysteriously gets transported. The reason why I chose person vs nature is because I'm guessing that the profit Elijah sent her back or something similar.

Setting- around 1942 in Seder in New York.

Protagonist-The protagonist in this story is named Hannah she is around 12 and she does not take very much interest in her families traditions or Jewish traditions.

Antagonist-The antagonists in the story are the Nazis because obviously they were trying to kill every Jewish person in germany.

  29. REVISED

CONFLICT: At this point in the story (from the beginning of the book until chapter six) there have been a few conflicts. One of them, which a person vs. environment happens when Hannah opens the door. She is transported back in time. The problem is Hannah’s physical environment has changed dramatically and everybody around her think she is someone she literally is not. Her reality and her life is changed. Hannah’s new environment has confused and caused her trouble.

SETTING: in the story there has been two settings. The first would be the small apartment room belonging to Grandpa Will and Grandma Belle. Their home is full of family members because they are gathering to eat dinner and celebrate the first nights Seder.

ANTAGONIST: In this story the Nazi soldiers and Hitler are the antagonists. They cause pain to the Jewish people, they take away their rights. Killing many and having no regard for how the Jewish people feel.
