I think you should add more information on your QWILQ.

Q- In my opinion, she was allowed to drink because it is part of their religion.

      A- What celebration?

W - Why did it make you say " oh wow! " Add more detail.

I - How did you see Hannah and Aaron? Instead of saying I saw, say I had an image.

      L- Try to find one.

Q- " why do you where those beanies?" Isn't a proper quote.

  2. Q- What does Haggadah mean?
A- A book talking telling you about the Seder.

W- I was amazed that not many of the people in Hannah's family knew how old Hannah was. I choose this becuase these people are apart of her life, how do they not know her age.

I- I have an image of Hannah drinkning the wine will sitting at the dinner table with her family. Pg.16

L- "Chanukah" I choose this word because I think it is a very interesting word.
Meaning- An eight day jewish festival of lights.

Q- "Open the door to Elijha, child, and invtie him in with an open heart"
The quote means to allow Elijah into your life.
I found this quote was very interesting, that is why I choose it.

  3. Q- Why did Aunt Eva interrupt Grandpa Will while he was talking?
    - Why did Aaron believe in Elijah?

W- I was surprised when the Jewish people were forced to keep their doors open to show the Christians that they were not practicing blood. I chose this for W because, I didn't know that Jewish people were doing these things.

I- I got a clear image when Aaron hid the Afikoman in someone's stinky laundry (pg.18). Also, I got clear image when Hannah opened the door for Elijah and saw a greening field and a lowering sky. (pg.20)

L- 'With the yarmulke covering his fair hair, he looked like a miniature Grandpa Will.' I didn't know what 'yarmulke' means.

Q- "You know that no one forced you. You took this madness on yourself." This quote is very important because, this tells us that no one forced us to cause problems.

    1. Hello Mary Poppins! You've done a great job on your Q.W.I.L.Qs! Although there are a few things you should think about next time. I noticed that you've forgotten to put capitals at the start of your sentences and on names. Another thing I saw was you weren't always paying attention to you spelling. Also, you could have added more detail in you answers. Overall, I think you did a good job! :D

Q- Why can Hannah drink wine when she is only thirteen years old.
Also another one was why did Hannahs mom not know what age she was.

W- A part in the book that made me go oh wow was when the christen people made the jewish people keep there doors open because they wanted to know if the were parcticing a richual or practicing blood now that part is sad because everyone should be able to have some privicy.

I- An image i got was when only the woemen in the house were looking for the aifikoman
that the little brother aron hid.

L - a new languege that i saw in the book was chanuka and a chanuka is a type of jewish money.

      Q- didnt have one

  5. Q - Why was Hannah allowed to drink the wine at that age.
    - She was probably allowed for celebration sake. The adults might have thought that she was mature enough to celebrate with the adults.

W - When Hannah opened the door, I was wowed when the door opened to a field of grass. I expected her to open it up to the apartment hallway filled with doors.

I - I got a clear image when Hannah opened the door for Elijah. I could visualize Hannah's face in shock when it didn't open to what she expected. I could also visualize the grass and path with the shadowy man walking.

    L - Guffawed

Q - "It would have been enough." I chose this quote because it showed that it was almost enough. The reason I like this quote is because it referenced so many things. It might have been referencing the fact that Grandpa Will's hard work would have been enough to save his family if it wasn't for the Nazis constantly searching the house. It could also have referenced the fact that Hitler's army would have conquered Europe if it wasn't for the Allied army.

  6. Q - What is Haggadah?
    - Haggadah is the words told at the Seder on the first two nights of the Jewish passover.

W - I said " oh wow! " when they allowed to give Hannah the wine, after drinking the wine Hannah admitted she had been getting dizzy!

I- I had a image when all the people giving a toast and Hannah getting ecstatic because she just had some wine with the older people.

L " Who asked you to buried alive? You know that no one forced. You took this madness on yourself. " Said Elijah to Hannah.

    Q- ( Had nothing )

    1. Nice work Greg! Although, I would suggest that you explain why you chose your L and to give a bit more descriptive language on your I. Also, try to find a quote. I know there are TONS of quotes in the book, all you have to do is search.

  7. Q - Was the man that was walking through the fields of grass real? Or was it because Hannah was hallucinating? If she was hallucinating, was it because of the wine?

W - The moment in the book that I thought "Oh Wow" was when everyone allowed Hannah to drink the wine even though she was only 13.

I - I saw an image of the afikoman. The book described it as a blue cloth with crumbling contents. I imagined it sticking out of a pillow because Hannah said she hid the afikoman under Grandma Belle's pillow when she last did it.

L - The part of writing I though was really discriptive and clear, was when the narrator said-"Grandpa Will had a voice that buzzed like the plague of locusts" It gave me a clear idea of what his voice sounded like.

Q - "Elijah can have it all" I chose this quote because I thought the way Hannah said it was different. When Hannah said this, I'm pretty sure she wasn't trying to be generous, but she did so because she didn't want to drink anymore wine.

  8. W- I thought oh wow when everyone let her drink waterd wine, and she was only thirteen.

    I- (Had nothing)

Q- What was the "afikoman"? Also I wonder what "cloying means?

L- I liked the sentences "Her grandfather droned on about plagues and the expodus from Egypt." and when her grandmother said "Da-Da-yayun" three times.

    Q- (I had nothing)

Q-I wonder what the "Afikoman" was?
-When they said the word "cloying" I wondered what it meant.

W-I thought "Oh Wow" That Hannah's family let her drink waterd wine. My parents won't let me do that till I'm old enough.

I-For the image I did not connect or get a picture in my mind.

L-Some neat words I found were: Cloying, Afikoman.

  9. Q: Why do you think Hannah is allowed to drink wine when she's so young.
A: I think it's a jewish tradition that kids of some sort of age are allowed to drink wine.

W: I went wow when the book said the jewish people had to keep their doors open.

I: Anymore than she believed Darth Vader, or Robin Hood or the Easter Bunny.

    L: Afikoman, cloying, intently

You really did a great job! You had some grammar issue. For example, for the Q one, you need to change 'is' to 'was'. Also, you need to add more detail for W, I, L and Q. Over all, well done!

    2. SECOND DRAFT

Q: Why do you think that Hannah was allowed to drink wine while she's so young.
A: I think that because maybe Jews have different rules like for how old a child can start drinking alcohol.

W: I was shocked when the it was announced that Jews had to keep their doors open because the Nazi soldiers thought that the Jews were trying to take over the father land.

I: I got a very clear image of when Hannah said anymore that she believed Darth Vader, or Robin Hood or the Easter Bunny were real.

L: I found three words quite interesting, they are Afikoman, cloying, and intently.

Q: When Hannah said Aaron can have it all, I didn't think that Hannah said this out of generosity, I thought that she said it because she was just tired of drinking wine

  10. Q: What was the shadowy figure across the field?

W: I was shocked that they would let Hannah drink wine even though she was still young.

I: I had a clear image in my head of Aaron hiding the afikoman in someone's dirty laundry.

L: I loved how the author said "Grandpa Will had a voice that buzzed like the plague of locusts"

    1. I thought that your QWILQ was really good. You should try to add some more information to your answers by
      1) Answer Your Question.
      2) Explain why you thought wow.
      3) Explain the picture you had.
      4) Explain why you loved the sentence.
Also you didn't add a period to the end of your L and you should try to find a quote.

  11. Q:What was the "afikoman"?
a: I think the "afikoman" is a blue cloth, that hide for the rest of the family to find. I believe that its some sort of Jewish tradition.
W: It surprised me when they let Hannah drink wine. Even though it was watered down wine, I thought it was weird because she's still a child.
    I: (I didn't have one :()
L: Cloying was an exquisit word. I have no idea what it means, my guess is maybe having too much of a good thing.

    1. Your QWILQ was was missing a few things although still was good. A couple of things that you should fix are:
      1) Try to find out what the "afikoman" looks like t give a better description of it to everyone.
      2) Try to find an image/I because I'm sure you could.
      3) Get a definition of the word Cloying.
      4) Add the second Q (Quote)

W: It surprised me when they let Hannah drink wine. Even though it was watered down wine, I thought it was weird because she's still a child.
I: I got an image of the afikoman. The novel said that the afikoman is a blue cloth with crumbly food inside it.
L: Cloying was an exquisite word. According to Dictionary.com, it means, "causing or tending to cause disgust or aversion through excess: a perfume of cloying sweetness."
Q: A quote I found was, "Anymore than she believed Darth Vader, or Robin Hood or the Easter Bunny."

  12. Q: why do you think Hannah's parents let her have wine at the dinner when shes only 12?
A: I think they let her have wine because it was a special gathering and it was watered down. Also, it my be a tradition where when you are turning 13 you get a special glass of wine, or something like that.

W: I said wow when Hannah opened the door that leads to the hall, but the hall was gone. It had some wow been replaced by an open felid with the figure of a man walking. I said wow here because I was expecting her to open the door to an empty hall.

I: for my quote I choose when aunt Eva said to Hannah "of course its not fair, but when did fair have to do with it? This quote seemed significant to me because it seemed that her aunt wasn't just referring to Hannah having to eat rosemary instead of easter chocolate. To me she meant the entire reason why they had this holiday, because of how unfair the Nazis treated the Jewish people.

L: Grandpa will had a voice that buzzed like the plague of locus. I chose this line for my "language" because when I read itm it put clear sound in my mind of how grandpa will talked.

    1. I think you did a great job, but next time you may want to:

1.) Capitalize the first letter of each sentence.
2.) Add a questions mark to the 'Q' section.
      3.) Be more descriptive.
      4.) Capitalize 'I'.
5.) Add a period at the end of each sentence.
      6.) The 'Q' section doesn't make sense.

Q:) Why do you think that hannah wont's the afikoman so badly??

W:) I said wow when hannah drank the wine because to me it taste really bad

I:) i could see every one telling hannah to open the door and saw somebody walking i could see every thing that was happening with hannah.

L:) Afikoman because i think its interesting and i don't know what it means or what it looks like.

  14. Q:What do you think the purpose of the afikoma is?
    |__> A: I think it is a traditional cloth they take turns hiding every year as a game of enjoyment.

W:The part in the story that wowed me is basically when everyone is talking. This was very confusing as there were different names all over the page and there was almost know words that made sense as they are speaking part Yiddish.

I: When Hannah didn't believe the prophet would come through the door any more than the Easter Bunny, or Darth Vader I visioned all three of them busting down the door.

L: She liked the sweet, cloying taste of wine, even though it made her head buzz.

    Q: "It's Will's way.Don't make trouble"

    ReplyDelete
  15. Q: Why was Hannah allowed to drink wine in such a young age?
A: It is a ritual that in the passover, everyone needs to drink wine and then needs to pour their share to welcome the prophet Elijah.

W: I was suprised when I saw that during the passover, they needed to sing a song. I also couldn't believe that they had the open the doors to welcome the prophet Elijah.

I: Since I didn't find a quote, I had an image when Hannah glanced back at the family members when she was going to open the door.

L: I found the words ' afikoman' very intresting. I have never heard of a game like that but now I know what the gamel is. I also found the song intresting because the words are very scary and it was used to open the doors for elijah.

  16. I did this for Chapter 4.

Q: Since Hannah seems to be stuck in this dream will she ever get back to her real family?
Answer: I think that Hannah will either wake up and end up with her real family or just have to find a way to escape this dream. I wouldn't want to be people that I don;t even know so I'm sure she'll find a way out.

W: I thought wow when Gitl said "Shmuel and I-we are your family now. It was kind of weird hearing that because of how Hannah makes this out to be such a dream but when Gitl said this it seemed like it was more real than a dream.

I: I thought that "conspiratorial was a very interesting word.

L: An image I could see was when Hannah was picking at her food and not really eating it even though it didn't taste fake. I could see the annoyed look on Gitl's face and how Shmuel didn't seem to care.

Q: I thought that when Gitl said "From our lips to God's ears." it was very deep because he was saying that anything that you say could come true and that God will listen to it all.

In your first Q section you said haggada but it is spelt haggadah. You need to capitilize the first letter of the first Q section, the I section, the L section, and the second Q section. You need to put a period at the end of all your sections other than the first one where you need a question mark. In the I section you spelt said like siad, also in that section you put i rather than I, you also spelt doors like dorrs. For L you should put cloying and chanukha rather than cloying chanukha. Good job though.

I: I had a clear image in my head of Aaron hiding the small afikoman in someone's pile of stinky, dirty laundry.

L: I loved how the author said "Grandpa Will had a voice that buzzed like the plague of locusts" because it gave the reader a very good idea of how his voice sounded.
